Daily Prompt: Sweet Sixteen

I follow Daily Prompts by WordPress.com for some writing inspiration. I have to admit that finding subjects to write about is very hard for me and when I saw Monday’s prompt I just new that this is something I want to share with everyone.

When you were 16, what did you think your life would look like? Does it look like that? Is that a good thing?

I remember day when I was about 16, I was watching movie about woman working with dolphins – don’t really remember what movie that was, but I cried. I didn’t cry because something bad happen to the dolphin or to the woman, or to anyone else in that movie. I cried because I thought that I will never work with dolphins, I will never work with any kind of animals. In Poland there are no dolphins, in the Polish Baltic Sea live rare harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) which are one of six species of porpoise. It is one of the smallest marine mammals. That day I realized that I will stay forever in Poland working at 9 to 5 job leading boring life. I thought that my dreams about travel all over the world, working with animals or just seeing all those beautiful critters will never come true.

Few years latter I had to decide where to go to college? What I want to do? All those life decisions that will take me closer to my dream or to the life I don’t want. And I’m pretty happy with most of my decisions. All of them brought me here. I live in the United States, where I traveled all around already. I finished Biology at the Gdansk University – where I had an amazing time learning all about animal physiology, behavior, ecology and etc., I worked with animals, and what makes me the happiest is that I had a chance to see up close dolphins and belugas. My dreams came true. And now I’m applying for an internship in an wild animal sanctuary – I’m so excited about this.  I also traveled around Europe and now I can take my husband to learn and see Old World and share with him the same experiences I had when traveling in the United States.

My life doesn’t look like I imagined when I was 16, and I learned one thing if you really want something with hard work it might happen. My dreams changed a little bit since I was 16 but I know that one day I can get where I want to be and do what I want to do.

What about you? When you were 16, what did you think your life would look like? Does it look like that? Is that a good thing?

Travel Theme: Glass

This weeks travel theme at Where Is My Backpack is Glass. It reminded me about taking few shots in one of the stores in Old Town San Diego (collage 1) and it is perfect theme to show you pictures of stain-glass windows from St. Vitus Cathedra in Prague (collage 2.)
